‘Protecting the Worker in Labour Hire Supply Chains’

Dianne will be presenting on ‘Protecting the Worker in Labour Hire Supply Chains’.

Every PCBU must implement controls, supervision, and training. But how does the PCBU manage this when they are not in control of the workplace? Labour hire agencies provide workers across all industries, and they are PCBUs, but there is a perception they have no influence over the host workplaces – or do they?

Legislation recognises that there is often more than one PCBU in a supply chain and that all should consult, co-operate, and co-ordinate. How does this work in reality? How well protected are labour hire workers? In this discussion, we will profile a model for actively managing workplace safety for labour hire workers.

The model includes:

Review and assessment of the internal knowledge, policies, and procedures of the labour hire organisation supplying the workers Assessment of site safety and systems at the host client workplace Induction, training, and supervision checks A process for ongoing consultation and co-operation between the PCBU’s – including others in the supply chain – prioritising workers’ safety

This model has been tested over 10 years at over 1000 companies. We will look at some case studies to identify practical matters.
