Verus People Case Study: Strengthening Quality with ISO 9001 Recertification

In November 2025, Verus People Group successfully achieved recertification in the ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard, and as their certification partner, Certex is proud to celebrate their success. This milestone marks their second triennial of being certified in the standard and reflects on their commitment to maintaining quality as they continue to evolve their business.

ISO 9001 is one of the most widely recognised quality management standards across the globe. Rather than prescribing how organisations should operate, it provides organisations with a robust framework that supports consistency, accountability and continuous improvement, qualities that are especially important in industries such as healthcare recruitment where regulatory requirements and service expectations are high.

Who are Verus People?

Verus People is a specialist healthcare recruitment and workforce solutions business that supports hospitals, health services and care providers across Australia. Headquartered in Sydney, they focus on delivering high-quality, compliant clinicians across a diverse range of healthcare environments.

With a strong emphasis towards building long-term, trusted relationships with both clients and candidates alike, Verus People has seen significant growth over the years. Reflecting on the organisation’s journey so far, Chief Marketing Officer, Owen Terry, highlights several key  milestones,

“Key highlights include sustained growth across multiple healthcare divisions, long-term partnerships with public and private health services, and building strong internal systems that support quality, compliance and service delivery at scale.”

Why ISO 9001 Matters in the Recruitment Industry

Credibility, consistency and compliance play a vital role within the recruitment industry, especially so in healthcare.  For Verus People, ISO 9001 certification has helped support their credibility and quality of services within the industry. In practical terms, it has been an added advantage when submitting for tenders and panel applications, where ISO 9001 is often listed as a prerequisite.

“Having certification to ISO 9001 has been beneficial when submitting for Tenders as it is often a requirement, highlights the importance of consistent service delivery to support our clients and candidates and ensured robust governance and management structures. A strong focus on continuous improvement naturally has positive flow-on effects for the entire business.” - Owen Terry, Chief Marketing Officer

The Journey to Certification

Preparing for their initial ISO 9001 certification turned out to be a valuable learning  experience for the organisation. Chief Operations Officer Larissa Barr describes the process,

“Preparing for initial certification was a steep learning curve that highlighted some positives within the business and also areas that needed significant improvement. Being able to work through the process helped us understand individual standards and how they related to our business”

This early groundwork laid a strong foundation toward what would become a more structured, consistent approach to quality management across the organisation.

From Certification to Everyday Practice

Since achieving ISO 9001 certification, it has become embedded in the way Verus People operates.

Rather than it being a desirable credential within the industry, the standard is now integrated  within their daily decision making and service delivery processes. It has helped the organisation to align its services with clear, measurable quality objectives while also supporting the development of more efficient and effective management systems.

“Apart from being a desirable standard to hold within the industry, it has aligned our focus on service delivery with the standards and assisted us to grow and improve our  management systems to be more efficient and effective.”

Key Learnings from Certification and Audits

Verus People says one of the most valuable lessons they’ve learned through their certification and audit process was the importance of integration.

Instead of treating ISO 9001 as a once-in-a-year activity, Verus People has integrated it into everyday processes and behaviours across the organisation. This approach has helped them ensure consistency across teams and treat audits as a confirmation of how the business already operates.

“Building the standards into everyday processes and ways of thinking has been key” says Lariss Barr, “fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the business and maintaining the standards year round means audits feel like a validation of how we already operate, rather than a scramble to prepare.”

Why Certex?

When selecting a certification partner,  Verus People was looking for more than just technical  expertise. They were looking for a partner that could understand their industry and had a practical approach within their process. And Certex’s collaborative approach and strong industry knowledge stood out.

“Certex stood out for their clear communication, practical approach and strong understanding of our industry. The team worked collaboratively with us, providing guidance that was constructive and easy to apply, which helped demystify the process and made certification feel achievable and genuinely valuable rather than just a compliance exercise.”

Looking Ahead

Chief Marketing Officer, Owen Terry says that their future is focused on sustainable growth within the business. In his own words,

“Looking ahead, we’re focused on continued sustainable growth, further strengthening our management systems, and deepening our positive impact on patient outcomes and the communities we support.”

Certex is proud to support Verus People on their certification journey and looks forward to continuing this partnership into the future.
