Certex Impartiality Committee Chairman, Michael McLean, participated in first step to revise ISO 9001:2015 in London

ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) commenced the first step to revise ISO 9001:2015 for re-publication. ISO Technical Committee 176 met in Chiswick, West London in December last year to review the comments made by 110 national standards bodies from around the world as well as the results of international world ISO 9001 user surveys.

Certex Impartiality Committee Chairman, Michael McLean, is a member of this ISO Technical Committee and is one of only two people representing Australia in this process. Michael is participating as a “Technical Expert” for Quality Management.

Currently, ISO is aiming to complete the review of ISO 9001:2015 by 2025 and publish the new version by 2026. There is a long process ahead – now that the ISO Technical Committee has completed its review, the results have been sent to various Quality Committees internationally for consultation. The Technical Committee will then review every submitted comment through a disposition process by consensus.

The ISO Technical Committee is also considering the ISO/IEC Directives and changes to the harmonised Structure Appendix. One of the main proposed changes thus far is adding specific references to Climate Change within Clause 4 of the standard, namely the context of the organisation and the interested parties. Other proposed changes include increasing the requirement for process-based implementation of the standard to reduce the users replicating the clauses of the standard as their quality management system structure.

Michael has sat on the ISO Technical Committee 176 since 2015. He also sits on several other committees and bodies such as:

  • Member of the Standards Australia ISO Mirror Committee (QR-008) for Quality Management and Quality Assurance

  • Co-convener of the ISO Brand Integrity Group

  • Chairman of Certex International Impartiality Committee
