Upcoming Changes to QLD WHS Act 2011

Prepare for key changes to the QLD Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

In August last year, the Queensland Government commenced an independent review of the Act. All 31 recommendations have been accepted.

Main recommendations

  • Clarifying the rights of HSRs and worker representatives

  • Increasing education on the rights of HSRs and workers’ representatives

  • Improving cooperation between workers and employers

  • Streamlining dispute resolution procedures

A key finding was that safety outcomes improve when workers are empowered to play an active role in safety and when there are high levels of cooperation between workers and employers.

What’s next?

An amendment Bill will be introduced to Parliament later this year to implement most of the recommendations.
